"I would strongly suggest to anyone considering building a log home to do the research. Find a log home company that is willing to work with you and your needs (desires); a person who you can communicate with well and one who is not afraid to ask you questions about your budget or let you know the logs are not the only cost involved. John and Northeastern Log Homes made it real for us."

“Life in our log home is how we dreamed it should be — relaxed, restful and renewing.”
For Amy and Dan Palmer, building a log home has been “a life-long dream. Upon retiring, we moved to Maine and decided to do it! And we have never regretted building our own log home.” Here’s what Amy and Dan have to say about selecting and building their Northeastern Log Home:
“When we were thinking about building a log home, we went to Log Home Shows and researched different companies. We picked Northeastern Log Homes because we wanted to use resources within Maine. Also, the Northeastern rep, John Lusignan, was the only person who asked about our budget and guided us accordingly. He listened and was receptive to what we wanted and was more than willing to make changes on the original plan.
John suggested a smaller log home that we originally started looking (and we are glad he did). He worked with us to add a sunroom, dormer enlargement, and an extra exit. He discussed how the house would set on the land and the best use of solar. We have everything we dreamed of. John was receptive to ideas, suggesting alternatives when given our needs. We planned our home so we could live on one floor if necessary as we get older.
To get us ready to build our home, we read about and researched log homes and building. We asked John for suggestions for experienced local builders, and he gave us a few to choose from. After contacting a local builder who agreed to build, but couldn’t be the general contractor (GC), we acted as the GC and worked side-by-side with the builder — sanding, staining, and butting. We installed our deck and porch floors and built the balusters. Working on site allowed us to answer questions as they came up.
We were most impressed at how well and easily the house came together with few problems. When we thought we needed more of something, we called John and he sent it out immediately so we weren’t held up waiting for the supplies.
Friends and family (and others who stop by) are in awe when they see the inside and how open it is as the rooms flow together. They are also amazed by the amount of passive solar energy we get from the large windows, making it energy efficient. Quality if always a comment made by visitors too. Of course, initially, they love the outside of the house. The long, wide front porch and side deck expand the living space dramatically. Sun room is unheated but is a three-season living space and acts as a “cold room” in winter.
I would strongly suggest to anyone considering building a log home to do the research. Find a log home company that is willing to work with you and your needs (and desires); a person who you can communicate with well and one who is not afraid to ask you questions about your budget or let you know the logs are not the only cost involved. John and Northeastern Log Homes made it real for us. We found Northeastern Log Homes and we couldn’t be happier!
If we had to, we would work with and purchase our log home from Northeastern Log Home again in a heartbeat. We feel like family. We would not recommend any other!
This log home is our dream come true. It’s good to go on vacation but coming back to our log home is even better.”
